Gift Ideas for the Mixologist

Updated: Dec 9, 2024

Maybe those on your holiday gift-giving list enjoy savoring a special or favorite drink? Surprise them with elegant & easy ways to elevate their home bar and take their mixology skills up a notch. Hey, maybe they'll even invite you over more often.

For your cocktail aficionado

  • Beautiful glasses, perfect for bourbon, whiskey, cognac, or brandy

  • A pair of contemporary champagne flutes

  • Elegant cocktail picks

  • Cherry bark vanilla bitters

  • Luxurious Fabbri cherries or ginger

Having nice glasses & using them is a simple luxury that can be enjoyed again and again. These brandy snifter / Glencairn style glasses capture the aroma of your favorite bourbon or whiskey. They also double as a great vessel for mixed nuts. Who wants people sticking their hands in the communal bowl of nuts? These glasses are a interesting way for people to tip a handful of nuts into their open palm. No germ spreading! Who needs those during the holidays?

These stainless steel cocktail picks are like an exclamation point on the execution of the perfect cocktail. They are also very useful to use on a charcuterie board to skew olives or hunks of cheese. Sturdier & longer than standard toothpicks.

Bitters are an un-regulated alcoholic product, thanks to the food lobby during Prohibition. Think "vanilla extract." Bitters have a rather high alcohol content, but are sold in very small quantities and are intended to be used as a flavoring. Bittercube's cherry bark vanilla bitters layers and enhances cocktails, especially an old-fashioned. They serve as a good short-cut to making an infused syrup. They impart a lot of flavor without the high sugar content of most syrups. These bitters are also a great alternative to vanilla extract in baking products. Check out the great recipe ideas from Bittercube.

Want to surprise a 20-something, who has just moved into their first tiny apartment, with something a tad adult and special? This pair of champagne flutes are perfect. Sweat-proof, insulated, & compact. They even come in a sturdy box, easy for storing in a small space or having to pack up & move to your next, slightly larger, apartment.

So easy, shelf-stable Fabbri Amarena cherries or candied ginger can be used throughout the bar or kitchen. The cherries are standard garnish for an old-fashioned or a manhattan. The candied ginger adds nuance to any drink that includes ginger ale or ginger beer, and it is works really well in batch cocktails like sangria. Just toss in a little piece and some of the syrup.

And Oh, the syrup! After all the cherries or ginger are gone, whatever you do, do NOT toss the syrup. This stuff is wonderful on ice cream or yogurt. One of my favorite desserts is to mince a little of the candied ginger, sprinkle the ginger over a scoop of vanilla ice cream, & then drizzle with the ginger syrup. And just yesterday, I drizzled some cherry syrup on a piece of dense chocolate torte, added some whipped cream, and it was probably one of the best desserts I've had. Like Black Forest cake, but jokingly easy. Check out the suggested uses and other recipes shared by the Fabbri family. They've been making these gourmet condiment for 5 generations, since 1905!

Let's shake it up - Cheers!
